This is a recap of my first week “Creating a Dropshipping Company in a Month”. Stay tuned for more weekly updates!

The first thing I did this week was find a product I wanted to sell in my store. There are many determining factors when it comes to choosing a winning product or products.

A winning product should have at least one if not all of these values:

  1. A WOW-factor which is exactly what it sounds like, some part of the product or the whole product itself should impress the potential customer.
  2. The product should have a great design as well as a great or trendy quality.
  3. The product should fit into a niche market.
  4. Solves a customer’s problem

Finding my Niche

I started by choosing a niche market to target and chose eco-friendly products to be featured on my site. Using Google Trends, a free keyword-search-volume monitor, I typed in “environmentally friendly” to see how often the keyword was used in recent searches.

Keyword “Environmentally-Friendly” on Google Trends

This was disappointing being my fourth niche-market trend search because my goal was to find a niche market that was currently trending upwards on the analytics chart. So why sell in a niche-market that according to Google Trends is barely trending today? If the goal here is to sell trending products or products surrounding a hot current topic then I had found one. The Netflix Documentary “Seaspiracyaired March 24th, 2021, only two weeks ago.

While Eco-Friendly products were not trending specifically, Seaspiracy was. It doesn’t matter if the documentary was accurate and regardless of political or personal opinion, the data showed that a movie promoting eco-friendly views was being viewed at a high volume.

Get The Product

The next step was to find a product that helped find a solution to a customers’ pain point shopping in this market. I thought that plastic water bottles ending up in the ocean are not environmentally friendly and on the contrary are something that a customer in that market would want to combat. A reusable water bottle made with a great design that is eco-friendly and has a WOW-factor.

WOW-factor: Keeps Cold Liquid Cold for 24 Hrs./Hot Liquid Hot for 12 Hrs.

Great Design: Leathery-soft Grip made With Food Grade Stainless Steel.

Eco-friendly: Packaging Made From 100% Recycled Material.

Solves Customer’s Problem: Saves Plastic (no need for plastic water bottles).

Packaging made from 100% recyclable material, Eco-friendly reusable insulated stainless steel water bottle. Made in the USA, I found this product on SPocket and, I mean, it could not have been more of a bonus but the last value prop it offers is highlighted in red:

I think I found the perfect product! Of course, I will have to advertise it properly and incorporate SEO on my Shopify site by finding the highest ranked keywords surrounding this topic and implementing them into my copy on my site as well as improving my title tags.

The next step:

Create a logo for the store and then create the dropshipping store linking the necessary applications to fulfill and process orders. I also need to find the emails of influencers and PR managers and create a pitch to them to advertise my product on their social media.
